Fain Hancock's subtle paintings manifest themselves as orchestrated compositions of biomorphic shapes that build unexpected visual relationships and exude fragile beauty. Exploring the narrow lines between chaos and control, chance and intention, Hancock operates more as an editor than a mediator to convey the most in minimal form. Through a complex process of pours, washes, and calculated strokes, she creates her paintings by removing and starting again until she is satisfied. Each painting is completed only after she can push the boundaries no further.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Hancock received her bachelor's and master's degrees in drawing and painting from California College of the Arts. She exhibits her paintings at Hang Art in San Francisco and throughout the United States. Currently, she lives and works in Napa, CA where she is also an instructor at Napa Valley College.
