Gail Ragains approaches each painting as an open-ended improvisation. Beginning with the structure of the figure or landscape she intuitively reacts to the paint, stripping away the non-essentials to give a loose interpretation of form and movement. Ragains draws on her experience as a massage therapist to inform the handling of her subjects. Through her physical application and erasure of paint Ragains expresses human emotion through minimal means.
Gail Ragains has been painting since the early 1990's and exhibited widely in the San Francisco Bay Area. She lives and works in Redwood City.
