ANN EBY
ABOUT ANN EBY
Ann Eby
b. 1928
Ann Eby makes abstract paintings and mixed-media works to interpret her visual interactions with her everyday environment. Eby selects handmade papers from her vast collection to build upon, layer by layer, with acrylic paint. This process gives way to non-objective forms that are more poetry than prose.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, art was central to Eby’s upbringing. Her mother and maternal grandmother were both artists, and materials were abundant for creative exploration. She earned her B.A. in studio art from Rockford College. Upon moving to California in the 1970s, Eby earned an M.A. in creative art therapy from Lone Mountain College. For many years, she worked in hospitals as an Activities Therapist and Volunteer Coordinator. She now paints full-time in her studio in the Outer Sunset District in San Francisco.
