POUKé HALPERN
ABOUT POUKé HALPERN
Pouké Halpern
b. 1961
After working in a variety of different mediums, Pouké picked up a brush one day and promptly painted a giant glass. Beginning each painting with text and a mélange of shapes, Pouké continuously applies layers of color and markings as the under painting, which slowly reveals itself onto the foreground. Instinctually painting tabletop compositions with bottles, glasses, amphorae, jugs, and bowls, Pouké is drawn to the elegant shapes of these domestic objects.
Born and raised in Paris, France, Pouké studied interdisciplinary arts at San Francisco State University. Her art has been shown in local and national galleries and hangs in many private collections. She currently lives and mantains a studio in Berkeley.
