Portfolio Review at HANG ART

We love looking at new art and review work from dozens of prospective artists each month.

If you think you might be interested in submitting your work for review, we recommend you spend some time looking through this site to get a sense of the type of work we carry and the prices we set. Better still, we encourage you to visit HANG ART to determine if we would be a desired venue in which to exhibit your work. Please note, we do not review portfolios in person.

Here is some other important information to keep in mind while deciding whether to submit your slides:

HANG ART is a privately owned, commercial gallery that shows the work of Bay Area artists only. We will not review portfolios from artists who live beyond this geographic area.

HANG ART specializes in paintings and sculpture. We do not exhibit prints, photography, digital images, or video installations.

HANG ART is committed to showing original, high quality fine art that our customers can enjoy at affordable prices. HANG ART receives a 50% commission for all sold or rented work.

If you decide to submit your artwork, here is the procedure:

1. Submit 12-20 images of available work. Image formats accepted for review include slides and high-quality digital images. Images in other formats will not be reviewed. Do not send originals. (If we accept your work for display at HANG ART, you will need to provide a professional quality image for each work we consign.)

2. Any digital submissions should follow these guidelines: images should be JPEG file formats with a 72 dpi resolution and size no greater than 800 pixels in width. JPEG files should be clearly labeled and correspond to a separate image list.

3. Include a resume, cover letter, and statement about your art. Image list, Resume/CV, statement, and all supporting materials should be in .pdf or .doc file format. We will not accept Powerpoint presentations. Please provide a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope for the return of your materials.

4. Electronic portfolios or Web site links can be e-mailed to "review@hangart.com". Web-site links will not be reviewed without inclusion of cover letter, resume, and artist's statement.

5. Work is assessed for its quality, originality, and potential to enhance the collection exhibited by the gallery. Our artists vary widely in terms of their age, education and experience, there is no absolute requirement.

6. Please remember that the review process takes from 6-8 weeks.

7. If your work is selected for further review, we will arrange an appointment with you to see the work in person.

8. All of our works are on consignment from the artist. We have short-term, renewable, non-exclusive contracts with many of our artists. Though our contracts are not exclusive, we do request right-of-first-refusal from our artists.

If you have additional questions about portfolio review, please call 415 434 4264 or email "review at hangart dot com", and we will be happy to assist you.
