Portfolio Review at HANG ART

We love looking at new art and review work from dozens of prospective artists each month.

If you think you might be interested in submitting your work for review, we recommend you spend some time looking through this site to get a sense of the type of work we carry and the prices we set. Better still, we encourage you to visit HANG ART to determine if we would be a desired venue in which to exhibit your work.

Here is some other important information to keep in mind while deciding whether to submit your slides:

HANG ART is a privately owned, commercial gallery that shows the work of Bay Area artists. We are not currently reviewing portfolios from artists who live beyond this geographic area.

HANG ART is committed to showing original, high quality fine art that our customers can enjoy at affordable prices. HANG ART receives a 50% commission for all sold or rented work.

HANG ART specializes in paintings and sculpture. We do not exhibit prints, photography, digital images, or video installations.


If you decide to submit your slides, here is the procedure:

1. Submit 12-20 slides of available work. Please be sure that each of your slides is labeled with your name and the details of the work. Though we will accept photographs in lieu of slides, your photographs should be of impeccable quality since our initial judgment of your work will be based upon whatever we see in your portfolio. (If we accept your work for display at HANG ART, you will need to provide a professional quality slide for each work we consign.)

2. Include a resume, cover letter, and statement about your art. Please provide a SASE for the return of your materials. Artists' information will be reviewed by a jury of HANG ART staff members.

3. Electronic portfolios or Web site links can be e-mailed to "review@hangart.com".

4. Work is assessed for its quality, originality, and potential to enhance the collection exhibited by the gallery. Our artists vary widely in terms of their age, education and experience; our youngest "emerging" artist is 21, our oldest is 74. Some HANG ART artists have MFA degrees, others are self-taught. We represent artists who have exhibited in many different venues and received critical acclaim for their work; many of our artists are showing in a gallery for the very first time.

5. The review process takes from 6-8 weeks.

6. If your work is selected for further review, we will arrange an appointment with you to see the originals.

7. All of our works are on consignment from the artist. We have short-term, renewable, non-exclusive contracts with many of our artists. Though our contracts are not exclusive, we do request right-of-first-refusal from our artists, so that we can offer our customers what we believe to be the artist's best work.
