TARYN CURIEL
ABOUT TARYN CURIEL
Taryn Curiel
b.1970
Growing up in Mexico City, Taryn Curiel moved to the Silicon Valley in 1998. Where she once clothed the body with a background in fashion, she now expresses her mind through layered paintings. When painting, Curiel considers philosophically what it means to be human, creating veiled abstractions with moments of structure and flow. She found an unpredictability in watercolor that mirror her musings of life as well as its innate material transparency encouraging deeper exploration beyond surface appearances.
Curiel education pursuits include The Institute of Fashion, and La Activa, Mexico City. She has exhibited extensively at galleries and museums including the Los Gatos Art Museum and Triton Museum. Curiel lives in Palo Alto and works from her studio in San Jose.
